This past Wednesday at N.O.W., we had such a treat. Linda Rozelle came and shared a wonderful presentation on Charles Schulz and the Peanuts gang. I loved every minute of it—the stories, the humor, and the gentle wisdom those little cartoon characters still offer us. One thing Linda shared has stayed with me ever since: The Linus Project.
We all know Linus with that ever-present blanket—his source of comfort, security, and courage. That blanket went everywhere with him, and honestly, haven’t we all had something like that at some point? Something that helped us feel safe when the world felt just a bit too big? Project Linus takes that idea and turns it into a beautiful ministry.
Started in 1995, Project Linus now has over 400 chapters nationwide and has donated more than 10 million blankets to children in need. Right here in our community, the Iredell County Chapter (which also serves Alexander, Wilkes, Yadkin, Davie, and Davidson counties) began in 2017. Since then, they have delivered over 3,600 handmade blankets to children who are sick, homeless, grieving, or facing trauma. Each blanket is a hug made out of fabric and prayer. And I just love that.
So here’s what I’d like for us to do as a church this Advent season: Let’s make some blankets. Let’s join the Blanketeers and bring a little warmth and comfort to kids who need to know they’re not forgotten.
If you knit, crochet, quilt, sew, or can tie fleece together, you can make a blanket. And if you’re not crafty but want to give it a try—this is a perfect place to start. There’s no wrong way to give love.
Please bring your blanket to one of our Christmas Eve services or drop it off at the church office anytime before Christmas. I'll deliver them to Project Linus right after the holiday.
Just like Linus found courage wrapped up in his little blue blanket, maybe a child in our community will find comfort in something we made with our own hands.

I’m excited to see what we create together.
Let’s wrap some children in love this Christmas. See you Sunday!
Peace, Pastor Tracy
